Bangkok

Justin's parents got in to town almost 2 weeks ago.  We had planned to have a nice 2 1/2 weeks in Singapore.  For a week of their trip Thomas's family from Australia, Karin, Penny and Martha were due to visit Singapore as well. A few days before everyone arrived there was a horrible haze over Singapore from fires in Indonesia, the air was at hazardous levels.  We feared the trip would be terrible, especially if no one could go outside, so we made the decision to book a last minute trip and fly everyone to Bangkok.  We spent a week in an AMAZING hotel called the Sukhothai that exceeded any and all expectations that a 5 star hotel could have.  It was a wonderful week!

We traveled in serious numbers on this trip!  Here we are having just arrived in Bangkok.
We had many swims, drinks and meals poolside at the hotel. The grounds of the Sukhothai is quite spacious and quiet and lush.  It was a true oasis smack in the middle of the city.

We went out for family meals almost every night while Charlie slept with a babysitter in the room.
We had an outing with Karin, Penny and Martha to the aquarium in Siam Paragon shopping mall.

We went on a glass bottom boat to see sharks.

Having happy hour drinks in our hotel bar before more drinks at Sirroco.
Here we are at Sirocco, which is a roof top bar some 70 stories high overlooking all of Bangkok.  It is now quite famous from being in the second Hangover movie, but nonetheless is a spectacular venue for anyone's first trip to Bangkok.

We also ventured to the river and took a long boat ride through the canals.  They say Bangkok is the Venice of the East.  Besides the rough waters in the start of the trip, I think everyone enjoyed it including Charlie who was ever so content on Auntie Penny's lap.

We ended the ride at a market where there was loads of food cooking, Penny and Martha were intrigued to see things like fried insects on offer!

Our last delicious Thai meal!

Charlie was pretty sick for a few days having carried over a cold from a few weeks before.  But I have to say he is the best travel companion we could ask for.  He did so well on the plane rides, car rides and meals out. After Bangkok we left the Australian crew and drove out to Hua Hin for a few days at a beach resort. I will post pics of that trip soon.
