Airplanes

We spent the morning checking out the airplanes.  It is amazing the simple and free things that you can do to entertain a 2 year old. We could spot their headlights over the ocean and Charlie would shout up until the planes came right overhead. He clearly had too much fun because he has not stopped talking about airplanes since! He woke up from his nap talking about all the different color airplanes we spotted.

Brussel Sprouts

On Chick Pea and Far Far's last night in town we took Charlie to Brussel Sprouts in Sentosa for dinner.  It is a great restaurant for letting your kids run around and play, and the location next to the marina is perfect for Charlie to admire the boats.  We said goodbye to them today which was very sad.  It is always hard to see family go, but we really treasure the time we get to spend together.  It felt like we packed quite a lot in to their trip this time, but it did go by fast! We miss them already.

Hua Hin

After Bangkok we headed to Hua Hin which is a beach town 3 hours away from Bangkok.  We spent most of our time in the pool or at the club lounge eating and drinking! It was just a relaxing few days of hanging out and enjoying the sun.

One thing we have found in Thailand is the people there love Charlie! Especially the staff at the hotels we stayed in.  He was very good at practicing to say "Swadeka" with his hands together, which is how Thai's greet you.  He would smile and giggle at the staff as he attempted it.

Bangkok

Justin's parents got in to town almost 2 weeks ago.  We had planned to have a nice 2 1/2 weeks in Singapore.  For a week of their trip Thomas's family from Australia, Karin, Penny and Martha were due to visit Singapore as well. A few days before everyone arrived there was a horrible haze over Singapore from fires in Indonesia, the air was at hazardous levels.  We feared the trip would be terrible, especially if no one could go outside, so we made the decision to book a last minute trip and fly everyone to Bangkok.  We spent a week in an AMAZING hotel called the Sukhothai that exceeded any and all expectations that a 5 star hotel could have.  It was a wonderful week!

We traveled in serious numbers on this trip!  Here we are having just arrived in Bangkok.
We had many swims, drinks and meals poolside at the hotel. The grounds of the Sukhothai is quite spacious and quiet and lush.  It was a true oasis smack in the middle of the city.

We went out for family meals almost every night while Charlie slept with a babysitter in the room.
We had an outing with Karin, Penny and Martha to the aquarium in Siam Paragon shopping mall.

We went on a glass bottom boat to see sharks.

Having happy hour drinks in our hotel bar before more drinks at Sirroco.
Here we are at Sirocco, which is a roof top bar some 70 stories high overlooking all of Bangkok.  It is now quite famous from being in the second Hangover movie, but nonetheless is a spectacular venue for anyone's first trip to Bangkok.

We also ventured to the river and took a long boat ride through the canals.  They say Bangkok is the Venice of the East.  Besides the rough waters in the start of the trip, I think everyone enjoyed it including Charlie who was ever so content on Auntie Penny's lap.

We ended the ride at a market where there was loads of food cooking, Penny and Martha were intrigued to see things like fried insects on offer!

Our last delicious Thai meal!

Charlie was pretty sick for a few days having carried over a cold from a few weeks before.  But I have to say he is the best travel companion we could ask for.  He did so well on the plane rides, car rides and meals out. After Bangkok we left the Australian crew and drove out to Hua Hin for a few days at a beach resort. I will post pics of that trip soon.
